Accepting Donations

If your organization is already able to accept credit cards and you are an account administrator, you can activate the donations feature from the Web Sales Settings page in the Manage section of your Tixato account.

All fees and payout methods described in the credit card sales guide apply to donations as well. Also note that you are responsible for notifying your patrons about the tax deductibility of their donations. Your organization is not required to be registered as a 501c3 charity in the U.S.A. to receive donations, but if you are, you should make that clear.

There are four customizable messages patrons will encounter when they're making a donation: a short message in the small donation widget, a long message on the donation page, and "thank you" messages on the donation receipt page and in the donation receipt email.

All the messages can be customized on your Web Sales Settings page in the Manage section of the site.

1. Short Donation Message

The "short donation message" is used in the donation sidebar element on your organization's main web sales page.

2. Full Donation Message

The "donation message" is used on your organization's main donation page.

3. Donation Web Thanks Message

This is the brief message that will show on the receipt page your patrons see immediately after completing a donation transaction. You are free to link to your own "thank you" page, but this will be the first thing they see after clicking the Place Order button.

4. Donation Email Thanks Message

This is a brief message that will be included in the email receipt your patrons receive after completing a donation transaction. You are free to leave this blank and send an additional custom email using your own template. As with any other kind of transaction, we will provide you with the patron's name and email address.

The ledger and custom report builder both include donation records.

The ledger will show daily donations as line items in the "Today's Sales" table. All downloadable CSV donation reports will include donations as individual product transactions with "donation" under the "Transaction Type" header.

The report builder is able to show each donation or can group donations by patrons to show each patron's cumulative donation total.
