The Tixato Guide to Coupons

Coupons in Tixato are a simple way for you to expose a discount to patrons shopping for tickets on the web.

For example, let's say you've set up your default price group to start at a ticket price of $25.00 and have two normal discounts: *Senior* at 20% off and *Student* at 25% off. All these prices are available on the web sales page, but maybe you have a special discount that you'd like to make available to certain patrons.

It's these situations where you would use a coupon. With a coupon you can associate a new price with a coupon code which your patron will enter on the web sales page.

Got to the coupon management screen.

You can access the coupon management screen by visiting the "Manage" page for your organization then clicking the "Coupons" menu item.

From the coupon management page you can start creating a new coupon by clicking the "Add Coupon" link (1).

Next you'll want to fill out the new coupon form. The "Name" field indicates the name you'll use to reference/manage the coupon as well as the name your patron will see when they redeem the coupon on the web sales page. The "Amount" field can be either a dollar amount or a percent off value that will be applied to the base price of a ticket. The "Unlock Code" field indicates the code the patron will enter in order to unlock new special prices on the web sales page. If this field is left blank then Tixato will generate a unique unlock code for you. The final two fields "Active On" and "Expriation Date" specify the time period in which the coupon will be active. If the "Expiration Date" field is left blank then the coupon will be active indefinitely, or until you manually deactivate it via the coupon management page.

After entering all the necessary details for your new coupon click the "Create New Coupon" button.

Redeem coupon code from web sales page

From the web sales page for a performance patrons have the opportunity to redeem a coupon code which will unlock special prices (note: they will not see the redemption form if the organization they're buying from doesn't currently have any active coupons). To redeem a coupon the code should be entered in the field labeled "Have a coupon code?" followed by pressing the "Redeem" button.

If the coupon code entered was valid the patron will now see the unlocked price in the available ticket prices for the performance. The patron can now proceed as they would normally and purchase their tickets.

If the coupon code entered was invalid the patron will see an error message indicating an invalid coupon code. The patron can then either attempt to re-enter their coupon code, or use one of the generally available prices.
